AWS Elemental MediaLive Anywhere

Cloud-controlled live video encoding on your own infrastructure

Benefits

Streamline live video operations

Simplify on-premises video processing

Migrate easily to the cloud

Increase streaming efficiency

Overview

MediaLive Anywhere is a feature of AWS Elemental MediaLive that lets you run live video encoding on premises while using the cloud for management. MediaLive Anywhere is deployed on your hardware to process video on premises while configuration, control, monitoring, and management tasks are done in the cloud. You can use MediaLive Anywhere to minimize video transit, improve hybrid workflow operations, and connect to on premises video sources and destinations.

AWS Elemental MediaLive Anywhere consists of a pay-as-you-go service that requires one or more appliances to run. AWS recommends you purchase hardware from AWS Partners that assemble, integrate, test, and support systems for use with MediaLive Anywhere. If you are interested in using other appliances with MediaLive Anywhere, please contact sales.

Use Cases

High-quality contribution of live video to the cloud for further processing and distribution.

Connect to video sources anchored on premises, such as SDI video.

Keep signals close to managed networks and send video to local or remote network destinations.

Prepare for cloud migration while waiting for existing investments to expire.

Pricing

With the MediaLive Anywhere service, you only pay for channels running on instances managed by the service. No long-term commitments or upfront payments are needed. Hourly rates are charged based on the codec and the highest output resolution for each running channel, regardless of the number of inputs or outputs. There are no additional charges for AWS Elemental MediaLive add-on features such as advanced audio, audio normalization, and motion graphics. MediaLive Anywhere pricing is the same regardless of AWS Region.

Additional charges

MediaLive Anywhere requires the AWS Systems Manager Agent (SSM Agent) to authenticate and register your on-premises instances. You may be charged for registering your on-premises instances with AWS Systems Manager if you have over 1000 instances per account per region at any point of time. Visit the AWS Systems Manager pricing page for more details.

You will also be charged for data transfer based on standard AWS data transfer fees for communication between the ECS Anywhere control plane and ECS agent that occurs through VPN or AWS Direct Connect. You will not be charged for data transfer when communication between the Amazon ECS Anywhere control plane and ECS agent occurs over the open Internet.

Resolutions for AWS Elemental MediaLive Anywhere are defined as:

Standard Definition (SD) is less than 720 vertical resolution
High Definition (HD) is greater than or equal to 720 vertical resolution, but less than or equal to 1080 vertical resolution
Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) is greater than 1080, up to and including 2160 vertical resolution

Pricing examples

  • Example 1
  • Four hour live event

You are running a four hour live event stream where two AWS Elemental MediaLive Anywhere nodes are deployed on premises and receive SDI inputs. The nodes run in a 1+1 (active-active) deployment for resiliency. The MediaLive Anywhere appliances receive 1080p60 HD content as the source and generate a 5-tier adaptive bitrate (ABR) ladder in AVC, sending the output to AWS Elemental MediaPackage using a CMAF Ingest Output group. Each node pushes to one of the two MediaPackage entry points.

Total number of channels running = 2
Total number of hours per channel = 4
    Total HD, AVC channel hours = 2 x 4 = 8
Price per hour for 1 HD, AVC channel = $0.1335

    Total event cost = 8 * $0.1335 = $1.068
  • Example 2
  • 10 live linear channels running 24/7

You run 10 live linear channels with a 15-tier HD ABR stack (SDR and HDR, HEVC and AVC) sent to an on-premises packager. Each channel's ABR stack consists of 5 AVC SDR, 5 HEVC SDR, and 5 HEVC HDR outputs with a top resolution of 1920x1080 HD.

Total number of HD, HEVC channels running = 10
    Total hours per month = 30 days x 24 hours = 720
Price per hour for 1 HD, HEVC channel = $0.5341

    Monthly cost per HD, HEVC channel = 720 * $0.5341 = $384.552
    Monthly cost for 10 HD, HEVC channels = 10 * $384.552 = $3,845.52

Total monthly cost for 10 channels = $3,845.52

  • Example 3
  • 100 contribution feeds for live linear 24/7 channels

You are creating single bitrate contribution feeds using MediaLive Anywhere to channels that run 24/7. 50 of these feeds are encoded as UHD HEVC and the other 50 are HD AVC.

Total number of HD, AVC channels = 50
Total number of UHD, HEVC channels = 50

    Total hours per month = 30 days x 24 hours = 720
Price per hour for 1 HD, AVC channel = $0.1335
Price per hour for 1 UHD, HEVC channel = $2.1364

    Monthly cost per HD, AVC channel = 720 * $0.1335 = $96.12
    Monthly cost per UHD, HEVC channel = 720 *$2.1364 = $1,538.208

    Monthly cost for 50 HD, AVC channels = 50 * $96.12 = $4,806.00
    Monthly cost for 50 UHD, HEVC channels = 50 * $1,538.208 = $76,910.40

    Total monthly cost for the 100 channels = $4,806.00 + $76,910.40 = $81,716.40
